I am acting as a mentor in Google's Summer of Code again this year. For those of you who don't know what this is, basically Google pays students $4,500 over the summer to work on open source projects. This lets them program over the summer instead of work a fast food job or something. The hope is that they will enjoy the community they work with along with the altruistic nature of it that they will continue on with their work and get involved in open source.
Anyway, the student I am mentoring, Alexandre, has a a blog. He has a post about finding out that he was accepted for his GSoC project. The thing in the post that prompted this blog post is that he called me a "Python star developer". That was rather flattering!
Just one of those things, along with being recognized by people at PyCon and having people thank me for my work, that still surprises me. I hope I never grow accustomed to it as it is rather nice to have it put a smile on my face every time something like this happens.
