Lessons from my ergonomics evaluation

First, the usual lesson of keeping your legs flat on the floor with your knees bent at 90 degrees is right. Obviously sit up straight and make sure your chair has a pan slider (part that sits under your thights near your knees) that goes far enough out.

Also making sure you don't rest your wrists on your keyboard is also true as I found out the hard way. Getting used to having my hands float above the keys. Don't type nearly as fast at the moment but I think, if I pushed it, I could get my speed up pretty high.

The more interesting thing was monitor and keyboard height. For the keyboard, the top of it should be at the same height, if not an inch lower, as where your elbows are off the ground when sitting. For me, my elbows are supposed to be at 30.5" with the top of my keyboard at 30.5 - 29.5" off the ground.

As for the monitor, you want your eyes to hit them a third of the way down from the top. This is because after about two hours, when your eyes get tired, your eyes will begin to droop, putting them at the middle of the screen.

As for my desk, my chair is slightly too short, the back wasn't locked, the pan doesn't go far out enough, and the monitors were too low. At least she said my new way of typing was good. =)

I still have a hard time getting my wrists off the table. Sometimes its hard during the end of the day when I already got all the nrg stuck out of me. Also when I use a mouse, it doesn't feel right to have the wrist floating so I start using those gel pads next to my mouse.
