Sony is making a mistake with the cheap PS3

Sony has announced two different levels of PS3 (much like MS did with the XBox 360). Their $500 model lacks 802.11g networking, memory card reader, smaller hard drive, and no HDMI. While no wireless is tolerable (you can get really long ethernet cables if you can stand the ugly), get a flash drive (although many of us have multiple CompactFlash and SD cards from our various digital cameras), and 20 GB is still a lot, the lack of HDMI is an issue.

Multiple sources, including Ars Technica, have pointed out the problem with no HDMI output in a Blu-Ray player. There is some DRM in the machine that says that if you do not use a secure connection between the player and your TV, you cannot view stuff at the highest resolution. Currently no one is using this protection, but if they do, you are shit out of luck with the "cheaper" PS3.

No matter to me, though. I would rather get a Nintendo Wii anyway.

yeah, I was kinda disappointed with Sony this year. Nintendo dominated the E3 this year. the line was 15 mins for Sony and 3-5 hours for Nintendo. Wii is awesome though, definitely a buy.
