My artistic side has always slightly nagged me to go into graphics arts. Specifically layout has always been a big thing with me. Getting information presented in a good way has always caught my eye. Choose the right colours with the proper fonts you can get your idea across so much better. Probably why I put so much effort into my business cards.
And I have to say, LaTeX keeps me happy by helping me output good looking documents. Nothing fancy, just my homework. But having a nice layout for the text and taking the time and effort to get lists to look right and to output everything properly without it looking like I typed it with just what is available in a basic word processor is nice. Yes, it take a lot more effort, but I think it is worth it.
