TigerCow? - Gentoo for Mac OS X

One of the biggest flaws with UNIX is when you install an app with a ton of installs and then no longer want the app you have to uninstall the dependencies by hand.  And package managers typically do not help thanks to the fact that they do not a dependency uninstall.

Except for Portage.  And so I have decided to give Portage for Mac OS X a try to see if it is at all good.  I have no clue how many packages are available, but I only need the occasional one so it should work at least on occasion.

There is of course the goodness of aptitude in Debian. Admittingly it is not available too all front ends of apt yet but work is under the way iirc.

Installshield uses a transation method that is similar to windows installer techology. I think it's called Vital Product Properties that keep tracks of each install action done by the installer so you can revert the same process during an uninstall. It works pretty well for both windows and unix to uninstall an app. of course, not that many unix app uses installshield since it cost $2.5K a license :P
