I have never been into the social networking sites. Just never really served a purpose for me.
But when two people knew about the new place Meesh and I signed a lease on purely because she updated Facebook to say that I knew the site had reached a level of critical mass that might actually make it usable.
My big hope is to use it for spontaneous event invites. I am thinking along the lines of deciding to watch a movie that night at home or go out to see one the next day I can send out a Facebook event instead of having to phone everyone.

It may be better to use an email -> SMS gateway (or write one yourself) so that you can text everyone you want to invite to a movie. Some phones may offer similar abilities (though one may want/need to purchase one of the add-on texting packages if you do this often).
I tried that idea, and a lot of people didn't like it because of the SMS cost. Plus people in Canada are not into their cell phones as much as they are in the States (which might stem from the crappier plans up here).
Yeah, the fact that texting costs anything extra at all is quite silly (where else are people charged per 160 bytes?). Good luck with the whole facebook invites thing.
hey I just signed up but can't find you. update your high school info so I can search you by school :) I am not sure why facebook only has a search by email account, why can't I just type in an email?!?!?
