DVD / Blu-Ray controls through the PS3 controller

With version 1.80 of the PS3 firmware, I have managed to eliminate the last reason I kept my DVD player around: upscaling. But this also means that I need to know how to use my PS3 effectively as a DVD player through the PS3 controller if I want to avoid buying the DVD remote.

Turns out that the manual does not specify how the control works as a DVD remote. And online I couldn't find any instructions either. And so, at the suggestion of one of Meesh's friends who visited this past weekend, I just fiddled with the controller until I knew what each button did.

I cobbled together a cheatsheet using an image of the PS3 controller I found online (if people want I can stick a PDF online; if I had the patience it should probably be done using vector versions of the PS3 controller buttons). Since I already did the work I figured I would do a post listing the controls so that somebody else doesn't have to go through the hassle of figuring this stuff out.

• PLAY/PAUSE: X or START
• STOP/EXIT: CIRCLE
• FAST FORWARD (1.5, 10, 30, or 120x): digital right or left analog pushed right.
• REWIND (10, 30, or 120x): digital left or left analog pressed left.
• CHAPTER FORWARD: R1
• CHAPTER REWIND: L1
• PLAYBACK INFO: SELECT
• POP-UP/ROOT MENU: SQUARE
• CONTROLS MENU: TRIANGLE
