The car industry and their weak arguments against fuel efficiency

The EU is workings towards enacting new CO2 emission standard for 2012. It's interesting to read the response from the car industry. Claiming that because people want "big, safe" cars that lower CO2 output could be bad is bogus. SUV sales have actually been on the decline. Plus the global warming movement at a large scale is a new thing and will end up taking hold. Not exactly forward-thinking on their part.
