Last night I sat down to get some homework done and I put on my Sennheiser HD 545 headphones that I have owned for a long time. But when I slipped them on there was a slight pain at the top of my head. The headband has been cracked for a while and the padding has also been compressed. But last night it finally gave out so much that a sharp point was pressing into the top of my head.
On top of that the cushions in the headphones are shot. They are basically still puffy, but the liner on the inside has ripped. They need replacing.
I went to Sennheiser's web site to see how much it would cost to replace the headband and cushions and it came to over $75 (didn't look at tax and shipping). Damn.
With it costing that much I went to HeadRoom and found the Sennheiser HD 555 for about $120. That means that the replacement parts to keep my headphones functional is about 62% of the cost of a new set of headphones.
It is really tempting to go with the new set. The 555 has the drivers (the speaker part) at a certain angle to help with the sound. Plus the reviews don't mention the amount of noise escapign them, which suggests to me they might be quieter for the rest of the room compared to my 545s which are notorious for blasting noise out the sides.
I am not about to have them shipped here to Canada, so I have some thinking to do.
