Last night I went out with people from my building to a bar. Forget the name of the place but it was off of Yew near 1st and was kind of trendy.
The whole trip ended up with a discussion about how Vancouver is rather unique in terms of its night life. Bars here close their patio at 23:00. They tend to totally close around 1:00 in the morning. They have line-ups by 22:00. All of us are used to places where people don't even contemplate going out to a bar until 23:00 and having the bars open until 3:00. So this idea that you need to be at the bar around 21:00 to avoid lines is really foreign to most of us.
Anyway, the dream. So I didn't get home until 2:00 or so. Went to sleep. At some point I dreamt that I had gone to bed while there were still guests in the living room. This may have stemmed from the fact that when we came back to the building a group of us got ahead of everyone else and just went right up without waiting since we were all tired. Plus one of my roommates came home and I think my mind decided to weave that in to my dream.
I then went back to sleep and had another dream about rock climbing. I was in a rock climbing store where they had catwalks with stuff, but the entire store was rigged to be climbed. I was there with a bunch of people who I don't think were very specific, but I know Meesh was there. I didn't know exactly how to climb (I have done outdoor once and that's it), but Meesh was climbing right above me. Thanks to my height, I was able to pull myself up to her position in two arm reaches. My hands were not dry so I asked where the climbing gloves were. She pointed them out. So I hopped the guard rail for the catwalk that I was hanging off of and started to look at gloves.
Then I woke up.

The bar times probably stem from the old Canadian moral laws, hold overs from a long time ago. You probably remember me telling you about how no liquor or tools that could be used for work could be sold on Sunday. They litterally would "chain link off" sections of big stores so you could not get to tools to purchase them on Sunday. It used to be illegal to drink in your own front yard, where people could see you.
Even when we lived there bars still had seperate entrances noted for men and couples, as I recall women were not suppossed to go in alone.
The sensorship laws very very strict and strange also. Any full frontal nudity was sensored from motion pictures, yet it was not unusual on Canadian Television - different sensor I guess.
Obviously things have changed, Canada is getting more progressive, case in point, Gay Marriage, and the US is has been moving in the opposite direction with the help of "Dubya" and his born again buddies. Makes me wish I had never cut up my Social Insurance Card!
