The world needs to deal with the oil crisis

A according to Global Business News jet fuel doubling in cost since 2004 helped lead to Delta and Northwest declaring bankruptcy. Doubling. That is just amazing.

Something needs to be done about this oil dependency. Oil pricing is just too volatile to be so dependent upon it. We need to start finding alternative power alternatives across the board to help stabilize power costs.

I am not saying that all planes should suddenly switch over to another power source. But oil is used in other places where a change would help dramatically lower the dependency overall and thus help bring prices back to a reasonable level.

Take cars. If more hybrids were used then the amount of oil consumption would drop. Even if fuel efficiency improved across the board on all cars that would have a high impact. And if a move to hydrogen would finally be made we would be so much better off. Move over to nuclear power to produce hydrogen and suddenly we have a clean, abundant power source that will dramatically cut down on oil demand, allowing it to stabilize.

But what are the chances Americans are going to be willing to do any of this? Hardly any. Hydrogen gets tossed around a lot, but the chance that the change will happen without federal subsidies is practically nil.
