Went with Gizmo which gives me a sipphone.com account. They are federating (i.e., making a deal about cross-user stuff) with Google Talk which is cool. I didn't go with Skype since it does not support SIP and thus you can only call other Skype users.
I am not going to bother leaving the thing running until at least one other person I know has a SIP account with someone. If you do have one, let me know.
